Why invest in email marketing?
If you’re reading this, you’ve already understood two points: 1) email marketing is something you should be investing in because it remains a top-performing channel, and 2) there is no way you’ll be able to scale your e-learning business without some sort of automation.
There is an obvious 3rd point though: unless you’re a well-established business within your industry, it’s very unlikely that people will visit your website and purchase your course straight away.
You’ve heard it before: it’s all about relationships and nurturing your prospects so that you can build trust. That’s where email marketing can make a real difference.
The challenge though is that it can become rapidly time-consuming, and complex to manage.
Why ActiveCampaign is the best choice for Thinkific?
My go-to email marketing service provider is ActiveCampaign. I’ve tried many (think Mailchimp, AWeber, GetResponse, etc.). However, while on the surface they offer similar features, there are 2 main categories of these tools: some are list-based, and others are tag-based.
Without going into too much detail, choosing the right one is crucial when it comes to integrating it with an LMS such as Thinkific. The reason is that if you opt for a list-based email marketing service provider (e.g. Mailchimp), your integration with Thinkific will remain very basic: whenever a student signs up to your school, their contact information will be sync-ed with 1 list (and only 1) in Mailchimp.
That’s pretty much it… then if you want this new student to receive relevant emails depending on the actions they are taking, you will need to build external automations, via Zapier for instance.
While this setup can work, it’s going to cost you extra and will be very difficult to manage.
So what’s a better solution then? A tag-based email marketing platform, such as ActiveCampaign or ConvertKit.
ActiveCampaign still remains my first choice for Thinkific, simply due to the business relationship between the 2 companies. Also, the level of integration, flexibility and automation is simply a-ma-zing!
